Why are USB KVM switches superior to standard
PS2 KVM switches? Here are the reasons:
1) The KVM switch also acts as a 4-port USB hub
in addition to a switch. This eliminates both your
hub and it's power brick.
2) Many USB KVM switches come with "combo"
molded USB/video cables. This reduces cable
clutter.
3) When you switch a USB KVM switch you are
switching not just your video, keyboard, and mouse,
but all the other USB peripherals that are plugged
into the USB switch also. This instantly swaps
keyboard, video, mouse, and other USB devices such
as scanners, storage devices, and cameras. If you
have Sony's excellent MSAC-US5
USB mouse/memory stick combo reader, you may be
able to get rid of your seperate USB memory card
reader also.
4) If you use a USB audio device like Apple's
Soundsticks and iSub, you can also eliminate *all*
of the stereo audio output cables from all your PCs
and Macs. When plugged into the KVM switch, the
audio system gets switched over to the correct
machine when everything else switches over too.
As an example, I recently switched over to a USB
KVM switch from a PS2 switch. Here are a few
photos:

Home office using PS2 switch - note the *three*
keyboards and mice on the desk.

After switching over to using a USB KVM switch -
note how clean the desk is - one mouse, one
keyboard and the separate USB hub has been
eliminated. The keyboard, mouse, scanner, and audio
system can be instantly switched between 2 PCs and
2 Macs. And......................

The switch-over eliminated all of this junk from
the office.
